Practical knowledge for players: hints, NPC dialogue, system messages and game mechanics. Each point carries a badge showing how certain it is.

## 14 things you should know

1. **Num Lock** toggles auto-run, **Shift + I** opens all bags, **~** attacks your target, **Z** switches to normal mode, where HP and mana slowly regenerate. All of them: [Shortcuts and commands](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/tips-keys). (Verified)
2. If you die while holding unspent Fletta points, you lose part of them as a penalty ([Oliver](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/npc-9300071) says so). Don't hoard them; the system: [Fletta](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/kor). (Estimate)
3. The starter chain gives free items: Lv.3 [Small Bag](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/item-69012), Lv.4 [Stone of Return](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/item-57104), Lv.6 [Boarskin Bag](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/item-69011), Lv.10 [1 - Class Change Certificate](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/item-63007). The Lv.13 quest [(Dungeon) Return of the Dead V](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/quest-19003051) gives a free mount with no time limit: [Iron Wolf](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/item-48001). All of it: [Beginners](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/tips-start). (Verified)
4. Changing class costs Carats on top of the certificate: the first change at Lv.10 is **10,000 Carats**, the Lv.45 one **100,000 Carats** + [2 - Class Change Certificate](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/item-70211). Save up in advance. (Verified)
5. You can withdraw a stored item from the warehouse of any town, and account storage is shared by every character on the account ([Anne](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/npc-9300131) says so). (Estimate)
6. Master and student: a student can be at most Lv.40, a master at least Lv.50. Between Lv.41 and 49 the option does not appear at all, so find a master before you pass Lv.40. [Master and student](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/tips-mentor) (Verified)
7. A pet's type (Enchanted, Lucky, Helper) is chosen once and cannot be changed afterwards. [Pet care](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/tips-pet) (Verified)
8. Deleting an item or a pet asks you to type **12211**, and what you delete never comes back. Combining items resets their + level. [Recovery and small rules](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/tips-small) (Verified)
9. Active super skill stones (all but the reduction family) **add** to the skill's cooldown. See [Super skill stones](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/superstones) and [Super skills](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/superskills). (Verified)
10. Other guides: point distribution and reset items in [Stats](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/stats), a roadmap in [Character planner](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/planner), auto-hunting in [Auto-hunt](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/autohunt), the game's auto-hunt panel, death and returning to town in [Karos Assistant](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/assistant). (Verified)
11. Don't sell a valuable item to an NPC for a handful of coins; selling it to players is far more profitable ([Veysiz](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/npc-9300171) says so). Ways to earn: [Economy](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/economy); maps, warps and bosses: [World](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/world). (Estimate)
12. Turn on the 2nd password: a 4-digit number entered only with the mouse. The backup password has 6 digits; after 5 wrong attempts you cannot enter it for 30 minutes. [Account security](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/tips-acc) (Verified)
13. When a skill fails, the message tells you why: wrong weapon, not enough HP/MP/FP, cooldown, range or zone. Some skills such as [Holy Grail](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/skill-4702) cost HP instead of mana. [Why won't my skill work?](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/tips-skill) (Verified)
14. The playtime reward always arrives in your mailbox, and a level reward goes there too if your bag is full. Check your mail. [Playtime rewards](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/tips-play) (Verified)

**What the badges mean**

- (Verified) This information is verified.
- (Estimate) Estimate: likely, but not confirmed.
- (Unknown) Not known yet; can be measured by testing in game.

For the pet (MiniMe) list and capsules see [Pets](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/pets); for the level table, training fees and owner bonuses see the pet tab of [Buffs](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/buffs).

## Getting started

Activate the capsule (irreversible) → hatch it (faster with an accelerant) → collect it from [Melisa](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/npc-9100011) → give it a unique name with [Pet Name Register Ticket](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/item-200010) (rename with [Pet Name Change Ticket](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/item-200011)). Melisa is in other towns too: [Melisa](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/npc-9810020) ([Posetunia](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/map-19009)), [Mellisa](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/npc-9850021) ([Heristum](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/map-19010)). (Verified)

## Choosing the type (permanent)

- **You cannot change the type after selecting it.** (Verified)
- Enchanted pets give a bonus to combat characteristics: attack power or defense. (Verified)
- Lucky pets give a bonus to probabilistic characteristics, such as the chance of dropping items and critical chance. (Verified)
- Helper pets have the ability to sell unnecessary items to stores. (Verified)
- If you order the pet to sell items, you will not be able to use the pet for 30 minutes. Continue? (Verified)

## Hunger and food

Well-fed → Normal → Hungry → Starving

- The pet has died. (Verified)
- Pet food should correspond to the stage of the pet. (Verified)

### Food

| Food | Lv. | Price | Matching stage |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Canned Snappy for Pets](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/item-200007) | 1 | 640 Karat | Adolescent |
| [Invigorating Apple Pie](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/item-200008) | 4 | 1,800 Karat | Adult |
| [Special Spicy-Sauce Takoyaki](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/item-200009) | 10 | 2,350 Karat | Elder |

The food level requirements match the stage limits (Adolescent Lv.1, Adult Lv.4, Elder Lv.10); this is most likely the "matching food" rule. (Estimate)

- [Stop-Hunger](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/item-200013): the pet feeds itself for a while; this is most likely 7 days. (Estimate)
- [Pet Appearance Change](https://karos-wiki.pages.dev/en/item-500200074): according to its description it also restores a dead or starving pet, an alternative to the 10,000-Carat revival. Not usable while the pet is summoned. (Estimate)
